Ok, I use them too, for commentary on my blog, to help keep from getting messages like this one...
I saw your posting and thought I would share the (job opportunity, penile enlargement system, prescription drug program, etc) that I found with you at www.stuffyoudon'twant.com
I find, however that half the time when I go to enter the letters shown to me I do so incorrectly. The l is leaning on the c and it could be a b or I get them jumbled in my head. How does this work to keep spammers at bay? Are spammers just twice as dumb as I am? I don't get it right half the time, so they don't ever get it right?
I wonder about this a lot.
I mess them up almost half the time myself. Sometimes when I slow down and get it exact (or so I think) its still wrong. Who knows. Its definitely a PIA, but I think its worth it. And I've had some pretty hilarious words spelled out in verification before, btw. :)
ReplyDeleteActually it's not designed to test humans, it supposed to prevent automated spamming by scripts which can parse text but can't decipher images.
ReplyDeleteBut I too confess to being unable to read the floating letters by times. It's as if I'm "in a boat on a river with tangerine trees and marmalade skies" surrounded by "Cellophane flowers of yellow and green Towering over your head"
-- with apologies to Lennon & McCartney.
You guys do not get it do you, word verification is designed to work that way, it prevents spaming.
ReplyDeleteRocky, I guess they will have to develop other testing methods to keep YOU out, like maybe a literacy test.
ReplyDeleteI think you should go to Church this Sunday and Join the Right Wingers in a few prayers may do you some good PTL
ReplyDeleteLT I will catch you later gotta run heading up to Deception Pass today, I will be posting some movies and pic's later on so I am giving you an official invite to come over and view them once posted.
ReplyDeleteWhew! I thought I was the only one who had any trouble reading the letters...
ReplyDeleteThey do make funny "words" sometimes. But not tonight. :(
